Sorry to tell you, nobody who is or was on Tandokucon staff has really posted here since about the year 2007 and the con chair or anyone official are not available to be talked to..the phone numbers and emails arent being answered.

If you want a multi day anime con in the Philadelphia area that are already scheduled for this year, there's always TAKII or Zenkaikon

Indeed, it would seem that if you desire to speak with the convention-at-large, then you're better off tracking down where they live. Alas.

Would have been a nice day trip for this year. Too bad. It looks like there's nothing going on. The website is not very informative at this time.

I was curious to see if there was going to be another Tandokukon in 2008, but seeing as there isn't even a real site up, that more or less answers any question on that. What the heck happened? 2007 wasn't a good enough start maybe?

Hi Kizziesama,

I was not involved with Tandokucon so I can't really say anything for sure.

What I do know is that they spent a LOT of money on Tandokucon 2008, and I don't think they made that much of it up during the con itself. Even if the money they spent did not need to be payed back, losing so much money would be a hard thing to do again. Also, if they had investors, it would be hard to convince them to invest in the convention again. I think they had their hearts in the right place when they tried to make a huge anime convention if Philly, but I think it was probably a bit too much to take on for their first year, especially with the limited staff that they had. Also, I think there were a few mistakes made regarding people who had volunteered to help (such as myself) being ignored, and not responding to offers of assistance from other conventions and clubs in the area. It was just a matter of biting off more than they could chew I think.

Also, I had heard that one of the planners of the convention had gone to Japan for a while to study, so this could have also affected plans for 2008 convention.

No matter what happened though, it would be nice if they could post regarding the status of the convention, so that people do not need to wonder. My guess is that they don't want to post anything until they themselves no for sure they are definitely having it or not having it again. Perhaps at this point they are still holding out hope they can still work something out. But even a 'Hi we are here, we still are trying to work things out and have no real plans yet' would be a real courtesy to those looking for information.

My best advice to you right now though is to keep checking these boards every once in a while, but not to get your hopes up. Also, look around, and you will see there are lots of other anime-related clubs and events in the Philly area to enjoy. I am involved with a number of them, and if you need any help finding them, just send me a PM Smile

Thank Kirsehn, but it's not like I'll be living on the east coast to even attend a Tandokucon convention again anyway Razz

And I know last year wasn't all that stellar. I heard more complaints that praise, and most of the praise was just from meeting people. Scheduling was probably the largest problem I heard of.

I think a change in the site is needed so as to not leave people in the dark on the status of this former convention, and if they even intended on bringing it back to Philly.

But, as I said, 2007 was the only Tandokucon I would have been able to attend (which I did), so 2008 was a no go for me to begin with. However, seeing as I went to school with one of the convention starters, I was curious to hear from him on if they would need new artwork for 2008.

Well, I don't know that there was ever an idea of having Tandokucon somewhere other than Philly to begin with. The impression I got was that it was created solely to bring an anime convention to the city, and as it has apparently fallen through the cracks at this point, it doesn't seem likely to be a repeat engagement.

Well, of course, I figured it would be in Philly again if they had it again ;P When I said bringing it back to Philly, I didn't mean for it to suggest they would have it elsewhere... I meant if they would have another convention experience in Philly.

However, from the looks of it, this entire "convention closer to home" was unsuccessful Sad

Emailed all the volunteers you say? You are the very first one who posted anything about this 0-o I'm kinda surprised that if Terry was very sick and in the hospital it wasnt put in the forums back in April and May..that sounds serious!

I'd say that cosplayer who posted about Tandokucon 2008 was hopeful it would be back and made plans to attend as evidenced by no dates or any info about it on their profile.

On March 27th I posted the email I got. See here
http://tandokucon.7.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=205

That was last I heard about anything. Any way I will be at Zenkaikon in Oct. It's in Valley Forge, only 45mins from NE Philly (Where I live). If anyone is into Hellsing, I'm hosting a fan panel on Sat night 10/18. Hope to see some of the volunteers I worked with at Tandokucon there.
